Milestones 2

Updates

  1. Your Journey can now live beyond Alongly. You can now embed your public Journey on your own website and export it as HTML. 🌐 Embed your Journey Add your project timeline to your portfolio, personal website, or product page. Visitors can explore your updates, images, videos, and milestones right where you present your work. New updates are reflected automatically. 📦 Export your Journey Download a standalone HTML file or an archive with your media. Keep a portable copy of your project history, ready to open and share outside Alongly. Whether you want to show how a project evolved or keep your own copy of its history, your Journey is now more useful beyond the platform. Your work, your website, your archive. Progress is better shared.

  2. Media Upload Postmortem We’ve identified two separate issues affecting media uploads in our latest mobile app, and we’re sorry for the disruption. 1. Backend proxy upload issue: We recently introduced a new proxy-based upload flow. Due to an incompatibility between browser-style file handling and React Native’s native file URIs, some uploads were sent to our backend as invalid or empty payloads. This could cause images or videos to appear broken after upload, without a clear error being shown in the app. 2. Android networking issue: At the same time, a React Native upgrade introduced changes to HTTP/network handling on Android. This caused some Android devices to fail media uploads altogether and display a network error. We’ve identified the root causes of both issues and implemented fixes. The fixes have been submitted to the App Store and Google Play in v1.1.4 and are currently awaiting review. Once v1.1.4 is available, please update the app to get the fixes. We know this has been frustrating, especially for anyone who saw their media appear broken or couldn’t upload media at all.

  3. Alongly is now on the web too! 🌐 You can now use Alongly not only on iOS and Android, but directly from your browser as well. It's a milestone we've had in mind for a long time. But we wanted to hit a few other milestones first to make sure the web experience was genuinely worth it. The web version is now in beta and there's a lot more to come. 🚀 Try Alongly on the web: my.alongly.app

  4. Marketing outreach: We’ve been working recently on improving our outreach, numbers, and overall marketing efforts. A lot of this is “undercover” work happening across multiple platforms, and the impact often takes weeks or even months to become visible. Marketing and reaching your users is a heavy workload that needs consistent attention, yet it’s something many solo builders tend to overlook. For those of you building solo, how do you usually handle marketing and user outreach?

Every builder has a story. Not just the launch post. Not just the milestone. Meet Passport - the identity layer for every Journey on Alongly. Your milestones. Your stamps. Your crew visas. Your origin. Every stamp marks a border crossed. Every visa represents someone who came along. Your journey, your people, your story - all in one place.

Today we're introducing a fresh new look for Alongly! 🎉🥳🎉 You can now switch between themes and share text-only updates - no media required anymore. Sometimes, words are all you need. And we're just getting started. More post formats are coming soon to better support your build-in-public journey.

  7. 0:24

Not every meaningful update looks like a milestone. We wrote about a pattern we kept hearing from people building in public: they don’t stop building - they stop posting because nothing feels “big enough” to share. www.alongly.app/blog/what-to-document-when-nothing-big-happened

  8. 0:13

Building in public means validating with real users, gathering honest feedback, and learning from every launch. We introduced Alongly to the indie hacker community and look forward to hearing feedback, learning from fellow founders, and improving the product together.

  9. 0:14

We put together this how-to guide to help indie founders build in public without burning out or losing their story across scattered posts. If that’s something you’ve been trying to figure out, here it is: www.alongly.app/blog/build-in-public-complete-guide

  10. 0:14

One of the core ideas behind building in public is creating a community that can follow your journey and stay up to date with your progress every step of the way. That's why we introduced “Journey Follow” You can now follow any journey and never miss an update, milestone, or piece of progress.

"Metrics tell you how something performed. Memory tells you what it meant." A new reflection on building in public and why documenting the process matters more than the metrics: www.alongly.app/blog/building-in-public-wheres-the-archive

  12. 0:30

We received honest feedback: our landing page wasn't clearly communicating who we're building for. Our vision is simple - a platform for people learning and building in public to share their work, connect with others, and grow together. So we've made a significant update to our landing page to better reflect that vision.

A lot of social products are built around growing an audience. Crew is built around something different: the people who already know your story. We shared a new reflection on that idea today: www.alongly.app/blog/crew-companions Progress is better shared.

  14. Today, we're introducing the Alongly Creator Program. Applications are now open for creators and community builders who want to bring people together through meaningful connections and shared experiences. Know someone who'd be a great fit? Share this with them. www.alongly.app/creators

The anxiety of losing a streak isn't always evidence of a lack of discipline. Sometimes it's evidence that the metric has become more important than the goal. We explored this idea in our reflection on when motivation turns into anxiety: www.alongly.app/blog/streak-anxiety Progress is better shared.

The best journeys are not always the most measurable ones. They are the ones you will want to understand later. Yesterday, we shared a new reflection on 5 journeys worth documenting. https://www.alongly.app/blog/5-journeys-worth-documenting.html Progress is better shared.

  17. 0:04

We've been refining the Alongly landing page to better reflect our philosophy. Progress doesn't follow a streak. It builds over time through documentation. Progress is better shared.

  18. 0:20

We shared a new reflection on performance pressure, algorithms, and what actually supports long-term growth. What building in public should feel like. https://www.alongly.app/blog/what-building-in-public.html Progress is better shared.

  19. 0:12

We identified friction in the onboarding flow that was contributing to a decline in conversation rates. We hypothesized that users wanted more sign-up options beyond email, so we are introducing Apple Sign-In to simplify the process and lower barriers to entry. Progress is better shared.

  20. 0:19

We shared a new reflection today on where progress actually happens. It shaped how we think about Reflection in Alongly as a place to look back, not measure. https://www.alongly.app/blog/where-progress-happens.html Progress is better shared.

  21. 0:33

We published an article today about why we built journeys instead of streaks. It comes from our own struggles with motivation, streaks, and figuring out what real progress actually looks like over time. https://www.alongly.app/blog/journeys-vs-streaks Progress is better shared.

  22. Part of building in public is listening. Not just sharing the good moments, but collecting feedback and learning as we go. We’re building Alongly in public, for all moments. If you have thoughts, ideas, or things that feel off, we’d love to hear them. Progress is better shared.

Alongly is now live on Android. Following the App Store launch and a few weeks of beta testing, we’re now publicly available on Google Play as well. Same journey. More places to join. Progress is better shared.

  24. 0:15

Alongly is officially live on the App Store. Android is coming next. We still need two weeks of beta testing before Google approval, so there's a bit more work ahead. Progress is better shared.

  25. Alongly was created as a supportive space to share journeys as they happen. Whether you're building a habit, learning a skill, or documenting a project, Alongly offers a focused place to share progress - in public or with your crew. No pressure, Just consistency and momentum. Progress is better shared.
